and give them (the disbelievers) that which they have spent (upon them).

na wapeni wanawake mahari yao hali ya kuwa ni kipawa.
and give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously.

kama mnavyo starehe nao, basi wapeni mahari yao kwa kuwa ni waajibu.
and in exchange of what you enjoy by marrying them pay their bridal-due as an obligation.

mama yangu zohra begum alipokea mahari watoto wake wawili wa kiume.
my mom zohra begum has taken dowry for her two elder sons.

hakupokea mahari yoyote kutoka kwa bibi harusi kwa ajili ya kaka yangu mdogo .
she did not take any dowry for my younger brother.

lakini wakikutunukieni kitu katika mahari, kwa radhi yao, basi kileni kiwashuke kwa raha.
but if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.

hapana ubaya kwenu mkiwapa t'alaka wanawake ambao hamjawagusa au kuwabainishia mahari yao.
also, it is not a sin if you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage or the fixing of the dowry. but the dowry will be due from a husband whether he is rich or poor.

basi waoeni kwa idhini ya watu wao, na wapeni mahari yao kama ada, wawe wanawake wema, si makahaba wala si mahawara.
marry them with the permission of their guardians, and give them their recompense fairly—to be protected—neither committing adultery, nor taking secret lovers.

kama mnavyo starehe nao, basi wapeni mahari yao kwa kuwa ni waajibu. wala hapana lawama juu yenu kwa mtakacho kubaliana baada ya kutimiza waajibu.
all others are lawful, provided you seek (them in marriage) with mahr (bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) from your property, desiring chastity, not committing illegal sexual intercourse, so with those of whom you have enjoyed sexual relations, give them their mahr as prescribed; but if after a mahr is prescribed, you agree mutually (to give more), there is no sin on you.

na akitoroka yeyote katika wake zenu kwenda kwa makafiri, tena ikatokea mkapata ngawira, basi wapeni walio kimbiwa na wake zao kiasi cha mahari waliyo yatoa.
and if any of your wives deserts you to the unbelievers, and ye have an accession (by the coming over of a woman from the other side), then pay to those whose wives have deserted the equivalent of what they had spent (on their dower).

nyinyi mmetokana wenyewe kwa wenyewe. basi waoeni kwa idhini ya watu wao, na wapeni mahari yao kama ada, wawe wanawake wema, si makahaba wala si mahawara.
marry them with the permission of their people and give them their wages (dowry) honorably being women in marriage and chaste, not taking lovers.

na pia wanawake wema miongoni mwa waumini, na wanawake wema miongoni mwa walio pewa kitabu kabla yenu, mtakapo wapa mahari yao, mkafunga nao ndoa, bila ya kufanya uhasharati wala kuwaweka kinyumba.
and [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse or taking [secret] lovers.
