i sigurno ćeš ih naći pohlepnijim ljudima prema življenju i od onih koji pridružuju. volio bi pojedinac njihov da živi hiljadu godina.

yet when the danger is past they lash you with sharp tongues, covetous of the best (of booty). such as these have not come to belief.
pa kad strah ode peckaju vas jezicima oštrim, pohlepni prema dobru.

you will see they are covetous of life more than other men, even more than those who practise idolatry. each one of them desires to live a thousand years, although longevity will never save them from punishment, for god sees all they do.
i naći ćeš ih, sigurno, da više žude za životom od svih ostalih ljudi, čak i od mnogobožaca; svaki bi volio poživjeti hiljadu godina, mada ga to, i kada bi toliko živio, ne bi od patnje udaljilo! – a allah dobro vidi ono što oni rade.

but when he did bestow of his bounty, they became covetous, and turned back (from their covenant), averse (from its fulfilment).
a kad im je on dao iz obilja svoga, oni su u tome postali škrti i okrenuli se – a oni ionako glave okreću.

but when danger appears you will find them looking at you with eyes turning like a man's in the swoon of death. yet when the danger is past they lash you with sharp tongues, covetous of the best (of booty).
a kad zavlada strah, vidiš ih kako gledaju u tebe kolutajući svojim očima kao pred smrt onesviješćeni; čim strah mine, oni vas psuju svojim oštrim jezicima, škrti da učine bilo kakvo dobro.
