so that thou didst not follow after me? didst thou then disobey my commandment?'

thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

he said: i am better than him. thou createdst me of fire, whilst him thou didst create of clay.

he (moses) said: o aaron! what held thee back when thou didst see them gone astray,
かれ（ムーサー）は言った。「ハールーンよ，かれらが迷うのを見た時，何があなた（の義務の履行）を妨げたのですか。

not before this didst thou recite any book, or inscribe it with thy right hand, for then those who follow falsehood would have doubted.
あなたはそれ（が下る）以前は，どんな啓典も読まなかった。またあなたの右手でそれを書き写しもしなかった。そうであったから，虚偽に従う者は疑いを抱いたであろう。

said he, 'we have tempted thy people since thou didst leave them. the samaritan has misled them into error.'
かれは仰せられた。「本当にわれはあなたの去った後あなたの民を試みたが，サーミリーがかれらを迷わせた。」

he said, 'did we not raise thee amongst us as a child? didst thou not tarry among us years of thy life?
かれは言った。「あなたは幼少の時，わたしたちの間で育てられたではないか。あなたの生涯の多くの年月を，わたしたちの間で過ごしたではないか。

and immediately jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, o thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
イエスはすぐに手を伸ばし、彼をつかまえて言われた、「信仰の薄い者よ、なぜ疑ったのか」。

allah forgive thee (o muhammad)! wherefor didst thou grant them leave ere those who told the truth were manifest to thee and thou didst know the liars?
アッラーはあなた（ムハンマド）を許した。何故あなたは，真実を述べる者が，あなたにはっきりして，嘘付きたちが分かる前に，かれら（がその家に留まること）を許したのか。

god shall say, 'even so it is. our signs came unto thee, and thou didst forget them; and so today thou art forgotten.'
かれは仰せられる。「われの印があなたに下った時，あなたはそれを無視したではないか。今日あなたはそれと同様無視されるのである。」
