bimbisāra had the bells rung throughout his land and this pronouncement was read:
དེས་རང་གི་ཡུལ་དུ་དྲིལ་བསྒྲགས་པ་བྱེད་དུ་བཅུག་སྟེ།

after Ānanda’s nephews went forth, Ānanda began to teach them to read,
རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱུང་ནས་ཀློག་ཏུ་གཞུག་པར་བརྩམས་པ་དང་།

the king of kosala, prasenajit too had the bells rung throughout his land and this pronouncement was read:
དེས་ཀྱང་དྲིལ་བསྒྲགས་པ་བྱེད་དུ་བཅུག་སྟེ། །

no one of the band of riders who sit on their horses looking at those marks saw all or any of that happen. yet each one reads the record unerringly. all is clear to the water’s edge. beyond that the tawny tide of peacock waters keeps its own secret, and the far bank, the distant hostile bank of ngura, is half lost behind the snow that sifts scatteringly out of a cloud whose smoky streamers trail on the changing surface of the river.
ཆུ་ཁར་རྨིག་རྗེས་ལ་གཅེར་འདུག་པའི་སྐྱ་མི་ཚོས་མདང་དགོང་བྱུང་བའི་བྱ་གཞག་གང་ཡང་དངོས་སུ་མཐོང་མེད་རུང་།ཆུ་ཁར་བཞག་པའི་རྗེས་ཤུལ་ལས་གནས་ཚུལ་གང་མང་ཞིག་ཆད་ལྷག་མེད་པར་རྟོགས་བྱུང་། འབབ་བཞིན་པའི་ཁ་བའི་ཀློང་ནས་དངུལ་རའི་ཁོངས་སུ་གཏོགས་པའི་ས་ཆ་འགའ་ལས་མཐོང་མི་ཐུབ་ལ། སྨིག་སྤྲིན་ནི་རི་དར་སྔོན་མོ་ཞིག་དང་འདྲ་བར་འབབ་པའི་ཆུ་ངོགས་སུ་ཟུག་འདུག དེའི་ཕ་རོལ་དུ་བྱུང་བའི་གནས་ཚུལ་རྣམས་ཁ་དོག་ཁམ་ནག་ཏུ་འགྱུར་བའི་རྨ་ཆུའི་རླབས་ཀྱི་གསང་བར་འགྱུར་སོང་།
