Überall dort, wo wasser in ausreichendem maße zur verfügung steht, ist die durchlaufkühlung die wirtschaftlichste form der kühlung. dabei wird oberflächenwasser aus dem meer, einem fluss, einem see oder kanal entnommen, zu den turbinenkondensatoren (hauptkühlkreislauf) bzw. den kühlern der nebenkühlkreisläufe geführt und anschließend wieder seinem ursprung zurückgegeben.
