der eigentliche grauhai (hexanchus griseus) macht seinem namen überhaupt keine ehre; seine vorherrschende farbe ist nämlich dunkel-schieferblau bis schokoladenbraun. er ist vorwiegend nachtaktiv, am tage liegt er ruhig auf dem meeresboden, bis in 1600 m tiefe. seine verbreitung erstreckt sich über den gesamten atlantik, einschließlich nordsee und mittelmeer, und reicht weiter bis in den indischen ozean hinein. Über seine lebensweise ist noch nicht viel bekannt.
