die schnaken dieser art fliegen von anfang september bis anfang oktober. tipula oleracea kommt weniger häufig vor, kann aber in manchen jahren sehr zahlreich auftreten. diese art hat zwei generationen pro jahr.
tipula oleracea is less common, though they can be prolific in certain years. this species has two generations per year, the first in may and the second from mid-august to mid-september. the leatherjackets of the first generation in particular can do great damage in the summer (golf greens!).

wir verbringen den späten nachmittag an dem schönen billabong hinter dem campingplatz. der billabong ist ein permanentes wasserloch im sonst trockenen bett des diamantina flusses. natürlich werde ich von schnaken und anderem getier gebissen, die einige grosse beulen an meinen beinen hinterlassen.
