na lau ungeli kuwa mkali, mwenye moyo mgumu, bila ya shaka wangeli kukimbia.

but what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten on around you,
wana nini wale walio kufuru wanakutumbulia macho tu?

fight against the unbelievers who live around you; and let them find in you sternness.
piganeni na wale makafiri walio karibu yenu, na wakute ugumu kwenu.

we destroyed the villages around you and we repeated our signs so that they might return.
na hakika tuliiangamiza miji ilio jirani zenu, na tulizitumia ishara ili wapate kurejea.

we have destroyed many townships around you, and diversified the signs, so that they may return.

and among those around you of the bedouins are hypocrites, and [also] from the people of madinah.

and some of the bedouins who dwell around you are hypocrites; and some of the people of the city are grown bold in hypocrisy.

and of the dwellers of the desert around you some are hypocrites, and so are some of the people of madinah; they have become inured to hypocrisy thou knowest them not, we know them.

ninafik ashahbag mara tatu kwa siku, ninatamka kwa sauti kubwa kauli mbiu mbalimbali, ninapochoka, huwa ninakuna kichwa changu, ninatazama pande zote, ninaangalia kwa mshangao kuwa, milingoti ya taa imekuwa milingoti ya kunyongea watu.
