اور ان کیلئے ایک نشانی رات بھی ہے جس سے ہم دن کو کھینچ لیتے ہیں تو ایک دم وہ اندھیرے میں رہ جاتے ہیں۔

if we wish, we turn it into chaff, whereat you are left stunned [saying to yourselves,]
اگر ہم چاہیں تو اس (پیداوار) کو (خشک کر کے) چُورا چُورا کر دیں تو تم باتیں بناتے رہ جاؤ۔

do people think that they are left alone by saying: 'we are believers' and will not be tried?
کیا لوگ اس گھمنڈ میں ہیں کہ اتنی بات پر چھوڑ دیے جائیں گے کہ کہیں ہم ایمان لائے، اور ان کی آزمائش نہ ہوگی

they have a sign in the night: we withdraw from it the [light of] day -- and they are left in darkness.
اور ان کیلئے ایک نشانی رات بھی ہے جس سے ہم دن کو کھینچ لیتے ہیں تو ایک دم وہ اندھیرے میں رہ جاتے ہیں۔

and a sign for them is the night. we remove from it [the light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

and it is not (proper) for the believers to go out to fight (jihad) all together. of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in (islamic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of evil).
اور مسلمانوں سے یہ تو ہو نہیں سکتا کہ سب کے سب نکلیں تو کیوں نہ ہو کہ ان کے ہر گروہ میں سے ایک جماعت نکلے کہ دین کی سمجھ حاصل کریں اور واپس آکر اپنی قوم کو ڈر سنائیں اس امید پر کہ وہ بچیں
