እዚህ እጄን ስጠኝ?

" and give me a minister from my family ,
« ከቤተሰቦቼም ለእኔ ረዳትን አድርግልኝ ፡ ፡

“ my lord ! give me a meritorious child . ”
ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ከመልካሞቹ የሆነን ( ልጅ ) ስጠኝ ፡ ፡

and give me a reputation of truth among the others .
በኋለኞቹም ሕዝቦች ውስጥ ለእኔ መልካም ዝናን አድርግልኝ ፡ ፡

or do they have a share in the heavens ? bring me a book revealed before this or some other vestige of knowledge , if you are telling the truth .
« ከአላህ ሌላ የምትግገዟቸውን አያችሁን ? ከምድር ምንን እንደ ፈጠሩ አሳዩኝ ፡ ፡ ወይም በሰማያት ለእነርሱ ( ከአላህ ጋር ) መጋራት አላቸውን ? ( ያማልዱናል በማለታችሁ ) እውነተኞች እንደ ኾናችሁ ከዚህ ( ቁርኣን ) በፊት የኾነን መጽሐፍ ወይም ከዕውቀት የኾነ ቅርስን አምጡልኝ » በላቸው ፡ ፡

perhaps my lord will give me a garden better than yours and strike your garden with a thunderbolt from the sky to turn it into a barren ground ,
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

or do they own a share of the heavens ? bring me a scripture prior to this one , or some trace of knowledge , if you are truthful . ”
« ከአላህ ሌላ የምትግገዟቸውን አያችሁን ? ከምድር ምንን እንደ ፈጠሩ አሳዩኝ ፡ ፡ ወይም በሰማያት ለእነርሱ ( ከአላህ ጋር ) መጋራት አላቸውን ? ( ያማልዱናል በማለታችሁ ) እውነተኞች እንደ ኾናችሁ ከዚህ ( ቁርኣን ) በፊት የኾነን መጽሐፍ ወይም ከዕውቀት የኾነ ቅርስን አምጡልኝ » በላቸው ፡ ፡

he said : ' forgive me my lord , and give me a kingdom the like of which will not befall any after me , surely , you are the giver '
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ለእኔ ማር ፡ ፡ ከእኔ በኋላ ለአንድም የማይገባንም ንግሥና ስጠኝ ፡ ፡ አንተ ለጋሱ አንተ ብቻ ነህና » አለ ፡ ፡

he said : my lord ! give me a sign . he said : your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health .
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

i will punish him most severely , or slay him , unless he gives me a valid excuse . ”
« ብርቱን ቅጣት በእርግጥ እቀጣዋለሁ ፡ ፡ ወይም በእርግጥ ዐርደዋለሁ ፤ ወይም ግልጽ በኾነ አስረጅ ይመጣኛል » ( አለ )

he said , “ my lord , give me a sign . ” he said , “ your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights straight . ”
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

i shall surely punish him severely or order him to be executed , unless he gives me a good reason for his absence . "
« ብርቱን ቅጣት በእርግጥ እቀጣዋለሁ ፡ ፡ ወይም በእርግጥ ዐርደዋለሁ ፤ ወይም ግልጽ በኾነ አስረጅ ይመጣኛል » ( አለ )

yet , my lord may haply give me a garden better than yours , and he may send a thunder-bolt , from the skies and in the morning it will be a barren plain ;
« ጌታዬ ከአትክልትህ የበለጠን ሊሰጠኝ በርሷም ( በአትክልትህ ) ላይ ከሰማይ መብረቆችን ሊልክባትና የምታንዳልጥ ምልጥ ምድር ልትኾን ይቻላል ፡ ፡

do they have any share in the heavens ? bring me a scripture [ revealed ] before this , or some vestige of [ divine ] knowledge , if you are truthful . ’
« ከአላህ ሌላ የምትግገዟቸውን አያችሁን ? ከምድር ምንን እንደ ፈጠሩ አሳዩኝ ፡ ፡ ወይም በሰማያት ለእነርሱ ( ከአላህ ጋር ) መጋራት አላቸውን ? ( ያማልዱናል በማለታችሁ ) እውነተኞች እንደ ኾናችሁ ከዚህ ( ቁርኣን ) በፊት የኾነን መጽሐፍ ወይም ከዕውቀት የኾነ ቅርስን አምጡልኝ » በላቸው ፡ ፡

as the caravan set off , their father said , ‘ i sense the scent of joseph , if you will not consider me a dotard . ’
ግመል ጫኞቹም ( ምስርን ) በተለዩ ጊዜ አባታቸው « እኔ የዩሱፍን ሽታ በእርግጥ አገኛለሁ ፡ ፡ ባታቄሉኝ ኖሮ ( ታምኑኝ ነበር ) » አለ ፡ ፡

he said : " o lord , give me a token . " " though sound , " he answered , " you will not talk to any one for three nights running . "
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡

( zakariya ) said : " o my lord ! give me a sign . " " thy sign , " was the answer , " shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights , although thou art not dumb . "
« ጌታዬ ሆይ ! ( እንግዲያውስ ) ለእኔ ምልክትን አድርግልኝ አለ ፡ ፡ ምልክትህ ጤናማ ሆነህ ሳለህ ሦስት ሌሊትን ( ከነቀናቸው ) ሰዎችን ለማነጋገር አለመቻልህ ነው » አለው ፡ ፡
