and to you we have revealed the book containing the truth, confirming the earlier revelations, and preserving them (from change and corruption). so judge between them by what has been revealed by god, and do not follow their whims, side-stepping the truth that has reached you. to each of you we have given a law and a way and a pattern of life. if god had pleased he could surely have made you one people (professing one faith). but he wished to try and test you by that which he gave you. so try to excel in good deeds. to him will you all return in the end, when he will tell you of what you were at variance.
اور (اے رسول(ص)) ہم نے آپ کی طرف حق کے ساتھ کتاب نازل کی ہے۔ جو تصدیق کرتی ہے۔ ان (آسمانی) کتابوں کی جو اس سے پہلے موجود ہیں اور ان کی محافظ و نگہبان ہے۔ لہٰذا آپ ان کے درمیان وہی فیصلہ کریں جو اللہ نے نازل کیا ہے اور اس حق سے منہ موڑ کر جو آپ کے پاس آگیا ہے۔ ان کی خواہشات کی پیروی نہ کریں، ہم نے تم میں سے ہر ایک کے لئے ایک شریعت اور ایک راہ مقرر کی ہے اور اگر خدا (زبردستی) چاہتا، تو تم سب کو ایک ہی (شریعت) کی ایک ہی امت بنا دیتا۔ مگر وہ چاہتا ہے کہ تمہیں آزمائے (ان احکام میں) جو (مختلف اوقات میں) تمہیں دیتا رہا ہے بس تم نیکیوں میں ایک دوسرے سے بڑھنے کی کوشش کرو۔ تم سب کی بازگشت اللہ ہی کی طرف ہے، پھر وہ تمہیں آگاہ کرے گا۔ ان باتوں سے جن میں تم اختلاف کرتے ہو۔
