and give it to this brahmin.
བྲམ་ཟེ་འདི་ལ་སྩལ་ཅིང་

“why do you not give me over?”
དེས་སྨྲས་པ། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་མི་སྦྱིན།

i ask the saṅgha to give its consent and
དགེ་འདུན་གྱིས་གནང་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག་དང་།

what instructions do you give to your students?
སློབ་མ་ལ་གདམས་པ་ནི་གང་ཡིན།

this is how to give the layperson’s vows.
འདི་ལྟར་སྦྱིན་པར་བྱ་སྟེ།

because, monks, i give kin exceptions to kin.
དགེ་སློང་དག་ང་ནི་ཉེ་དུ་རྣམས་ལ་ཉེ་དུའི་ཡོངས་སུ་སྤང་བ་སྦྱིན་པར་བྱེད་པའི་ཕྱིར་རོ། །

give me an army of just four divisions, your majesty,
ལྷས་བདག་ལ་དཔུང་གི་ཚོགས་ཡན་ལག་བཞི་པ་སྩལ་བ་འབའ་ཞིག་མཛོད་ཅིག་དང་།

or an act of suspension for refusal to give up deviant views.
སྡིག་པ་ཅན་གྱི་ལྟ་བའི་རྣམ་པ་མི་གཏོང་བས་གནས་ནས་དབྱུང་བའི་ལས་དེ

“then give him what you earned while a householder.”
དེ་ལྟ་ན་བསགས་པ་དེ་དག་སྩོལ་ཅིག །

and suspensions meted out for refusing to give up deviant views.”
སྡིག་པ་ཅན་གྱི་ལྟ་བའི་རྣམ་པ་མི་གཏོང་བས་གནས་ནས་ཕྱུང་བ་ཡང་དེ་བཞིན་ནོ།། །

there too you may give generously. there too you may act meritoriously.”
སྦྱིན་པ་དག་ཀྱང་སྩོལ་ཅིག །བསོད་ནམས་དག་ཀྱང་མཛོད་ཅིག །

but this noble novice cannot. we had better give him ordinary food.’
འཕགས་པ་འདིས་ནི་ཞུ་བར་མི་ནུས་ཀྱིས། འདི་ལ་ཁ་ཟས་ཐ་མལ་པ་སྦྱིན་པར་བྱའོ་སྙམ་ནས།

who would give these shaven-headed ascetics alms or think to help them?”
དགེ་སྦྱོང་མགོ་རེག་འདི་དག་ལ་སུ་ཞིག་བསོད་སྙོམས་སྦྱིན་པ་དང་། བྱ་བར་སེམས་

give its consent that the going forth of such and such a monk be allowed and that he be granted ordination by remaining silent.
དགེ་འདུན་གྱིས་མིང་འདི་ཞེས་བགྱི་བ་རབ་ཏུ་ཕྱུང་བ་དང་བསྙེན་པར་རྫོགས་པར་མཛད་ལགས་ཏེ། འདི་ལྟར་ཅང་མི་གསུང་བས་དེ་

from the ocean there came a voice, saying, “give us the noble saṅgharakṣita!”
དེ་ནས་རྒྱ་མཚོ་ཆེན་པོ་ནས་འཕགས་པ་དགེ་འདུན་འཚོ་ངེད་ལ་བྱིན་ཅིག་ཅེས་སྒྲ་ཕྱུང་ངོ་།

“sir, what is your approach to the dharma? what instructions do you give to your students?
ཤེས་ལྡན་ཁྱོད་ཀྱི་ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཚུལ་ནི་གང་ཡིན། སློབ་མ་ལ་གདམས་པ་ནི་གང་ཡིན།

‘i will give a large dowry and take her as my bride,’ said the brahmin. “
གལ་ཏེ་དེ་ལྟ་ན་ཁྱོད་ཉིད་ཤེས་སོ། །བྲམ་ཟེ་དེས་དེ་དཔལ་གྱི་འབྱོར་པ་ཆེན་པོས་བག་མར་བླངས་སོ། །

would give some consideration to prohibiting the noble ones from allowing the going forth of invalid sons of noble families and ordaining them.”
འཕགས་པ་དག་རིགས་ཀྱི་བུ་བྲོ་འཚལ་བ་རབ་ཏུ་འབྱིན་པ་དང་། བསྙེན་པར་རྫོགས་པར་མི་བགྱིད་པ་དྲན་པར་བགྱི་བ་ཅུང་ཞིག་བཅའ་བ་མཛད་ན་ལེགས་སོ། །

“the arhat novice replied, ‘elders, i’m busy at the moment. please wait a bit. i shall give it to you later.’“
དེས་སྨྲས་པ། གནས་བརྟན་དག་བདག་བྲེལ་གྱིས་རེ་ཞིག་ཡུད་ཙམ་ཞིག་གཞེས་ཤིག་དང་། སླད་ཀྱིས་གསོལ་ལོ། །
