4. 2. general tips because of its importance, we remind our readers some tips that will be useful to face any epso numerical reasoning exercise in general: a) do not overuse the calculator. the goal of these tests is not checking how fast we can handle this instrument, but to evaluate our ability to simplify calculations and identify numerical relationships. b) consider carefully the unit, scale, percentage or way of expression of the relevant magnitudes. a question can mix data in different units or scales, as well as some figures in percentages and others in percentage points. c) be aware of time management: if we have to solve 10 questions in 20 minutes, we have 2 minutes per question. i recommend not spending a long time with one exercise (never more than 2.5 minutes), especially at the beginning of your test, because this will increase your stress for the rest of the exam. unless, of course, you have gained additional time by answering faster the previous questions. remember that all the questions have the same score1. d) always answer all the questions, even if you had only a few seconds 1 however, you may consider another strategy too, if you feel that you really need a longer time to solve numerical questions, and having into account that epso usually requires just a pass mark of 5/10 for this part, not counting the extra points achieved to calculate your overall mcq tests mark; it could be sensitive to dedicate up to 3 minutes per question if necessary to solve perfectly 6 questions in 18 minutes, and 'guarantee' your pass mark with a certain margin. in any case, i will always recommend to solve the more questions the better, trying to maximise your score (it is also possible to fail more questions than you expected), and not running away from challenges, both in numerical tests and in life in general! 15
