dan sesungguhnya kamu telah mengharap-harapkan mati syahid (dalam perang sabil) sebelum kamu menghadapinya.
and assuredly ye were wont to long for death ere ye had met it.

dan sesiapa yang berperang pada jalan allah lalu ia mati (gugur syahid) atau beroleh kemenangan, maka kami akan memberi kepadanya pahala yang besar.
and he who fights in the cause of allah and is killed or achieves victory - we will bestow upon him a great reward.

dan jangan sekali-kali engkau menyangka orang-orang yang terbunuh (yang gugur syahid) pada jalan allah itu mati, (mereka tidak mati) bahkan mereka adalah hidup (secara istimewa) di sisi tuhan mereka dengan mendapat rezeki;
and do not ever assume that those who are slain in allah's cause, are dead; in fact they are alive with their lord, receiving sustenance. (death does not mean extinction, it is the passing of the soul from this world to another. in case of virtuous believers, their bodies do not rot after death and they remain “alive”, in the manner allah has ordained for them.)
