for many years, eggert gustavs spent the summer on hiddensee and the winter with his family – his wife, irene tourneau-gustavs, a dancer and teacher of dancing, and their six children – at neuruppin in brandenburg. many of his paintings capture the calm and tranquillity of the mark brandenburg, the lakes and forests of the 'ruppin switzerland' region described by theodor fontane in his wanderungen durch die mark brandenburg (travels in the mark brandenburg).
basandosi sul suo buon umore e sulla sua esperienze di vita egli compose molte poesie, favole, aforismi e giochi di parole. per molti anni, eggert gustavs suddivise il suo lavoro tra la residenza del hiddensee, dove trascorreva le estati e neuruppin (stato di brandeburgo), dove viveva il resto dell'anno con la moglie, la ballerina e insegnante di danza, irene tourneau gustavs, ed i loro sei figli. qui egli catturò in numerosi quadri la pace e la serenità della campagna, i laghi e le foreste di questa regione, chiamata "la svizzera del ruppin" e che theodor fontane ha descritto nel suo “durch die mark brandenburg wanderungen” (“passeggiate attraverso le zone del brandeburgo).
