the sculptural group with marsyas hanging from the tree and the scythian preparing to flay him is one of the most important works in hellenistic art. the only copy of the scythian that has survived is the so-called knife-grinder in the tribuna of the uffizi, (inv. 1914 no. 230), which arrived in florence in 1680.
