dear student, as the ceo of arx aerospace & defense and dean of international aviation technical college, we are so very proud to have the opportunity of leading a remarkable community of learners such as yourselves on the next phase of your academic journey. as you begin this next phase of your journey here at iatc you will be engaged, challenged, and presented with countless opportunities to broaden your depth of experience and to thrive - in classrooms and labs as well as through research, internships, extracurricular activities, and study abroad programs. most of all, you will have unprecedented opportunities to serve our community locally, regionally, and globally. though the opportunities that you choose to pursue are yours alone to make, you need only ask, and you will never want for guidance and advice in making them at iatc. student life at iatc, as anywhere, can feel overwhelming at times. in these moments, always remember that at iatc you have the support of both your faculty and your administration in all that you aspire to achieve during your time here as evidenced by the contents of this handbook. this student handbook in addition to the rules & regulations of undergraduate study & examinations will serve as important resources for you throughout the year. they include information about iatc policies and procedures, co-curricular activities, and the lines of communication to address any questions and concerns that you may have. remember that we are all invested in your success and well-being, and are committed to ensuring iatc excellence in teaching and learning while working with you to ensure a rewarding college experience. the exceptional experiences that you have at iatc will provide a strong foundation for the future opportunities and challenges that await you upon graduation. once again, welcome to iatc! i wish you all the very best during your academic journey. sincerely, ceo of arx aerospace & deface dean of international aviation technical college introduction this document will be applied on iatc campuses and to off-campus circumstances of misconduct where a student's actions dis-credit the college or damage the college's image/reputation in the public arena. the objective of the document is to ensure that the employees within iatc are fully aware of the covered policies and accordingly apply them systematically. a. purpose of the code of conduct arx aerospace and defense strives to promote excellence in international aviation technical college iatc, in accordance with national values and beliefs in saudi arabia. academic excellence at iatc relates, of course, to excellence in conveying knowledge and skills at high levels, but it is also part of the educational mandate of arx to form attitudes conducive to the needs of employers and compatible with the demands of the labor market (in summary: ”ksa” knowledge, skills and attitudes) among those attitudes, we may count punctuality, reliability, thoroughness, and seriousness in carrying out a task, but also honesty, academic integrity, and curiosity. even external factors like proper dress, courteous language, and self-confident yet respectful dialogue are among the elements that define a graduate of a college of excellence as a valuable professional. formation or change of attitudes is among the most time-consuming and one of the slowest-moving changes in any educational effort. success depends significantly upon practice, repetition – and living example. the college environment found at iatc is an ideal and safe practice and testing ground for such an educational endeavor. iatc have therefore developed the attached code of conduct, which is intended to instill a uniform framework for iatc in establishing common minimum standards of conduct. it is the hope of arx that iatc graduates, while trained by different providers are immediately recognizable not only for their high levels of knowledge and skills but also for the professionalism of their attitudes and conduct. for such a code to work it must be enforceable. the “code of conduct”, therefore includes the proposal for the executive disciplinary committee as an operational feature of the code. b. scope of the code of conduct the student code of conduct is applicable to the on-campus behavior of all registered students and trainees. a student/trainee also falls within the jurisdiction of the code of conduct for off-campus conduct when he is engaged in projects, site visits and corporate field practice and any other activity supporting the pursuit of a diploma, certificate, degree, or fulfillment of academic course requirements sponsored, organized and authorized by the coe colleges. c. academic integrity iatc is driven by internationally recognized standards of academic integrity. all members of faculty staff, as well as student trainees, are governed in their behavior by those demands. specifically, students/trainees will in their behavior during testing and examination consider this framework. cheating in examinations, plagiarizing researched papers, or otherwise dishonest behavior, in academic matters or otherwise will be considered serious allegations of the code and will result in disciplinary measures. examples of academic integrity violations: • plagiarism this involves using the thoughts, ideas, or writings of another person and passing them off as your own (adapted from the oxford english dictionary definition). it can involve taking credit for ideas that were not your own or using the words of others without properly citing them. • cheating the most common form of cheating is looking at someone else’s work during an exam or test, but it can also involve most of the other types of misconduct listed here. • self-plagiarism self-plagiarism is submitting the same piece of work for more than one course without the instructor’s permission. you are not allowed to receive course credit for the same work twice. this means that you can’t use an essay from a course you took last year in one of your current courses, even if the topic is the same. • impersonating another person in a test or exam this includes having another person show up to write a test or exam in your place (or being the person who writes the test in someone else’s place), but it also includes having someone else write an online test for you (or taking an online test for someone else). • buying or otherwise obtaining term papers or assignments if you submit work that someone else wrote, whether you paid for it or not, it is academic misconduct. • falsifying, misrepresenting or forging an academic record or supporting document this includes the materials that you submitted to the college when you applied for your program. if you are found to have changed, omitted, or forged any of those documents, your offer of admission can be revoked (even if you have begun your program already). forging doctor’s notes is also considered to be academic misconduct. • unauthorized collaboration sometimes your instructors will require you to work with others in the class (e.g., a group project) and sometimes they will want you to work on your own (e.g., for a take-home exam). when you work with others (for example, on an assignment) when the instructor expects you to work on your own, it is considered to be an unauthorized collaboration. different instructors have different expectations and it’s your responsibility to find out if you are allowed to work with others or if you are expected to complete the work on your own. • use of unauthorized aids during a test or exam unauthorized aids include anything that has not been cleared with your instructors as being allowed during the exam. you are allowed to have only the items that you will need to write the exam with you at your desk, and all your other belongings will need to be placed at the front of the room (including your phone and computer). if you are caught using any type of unauthorized aid (whether it’s a cheat sheet, smartwatch, and phone) it is considered cheating. before writing your exams, you should be familiar with the college regulations for exams. • improper access/obstruction of materials/systems improper access and/or obstruction of materials and systems involve hiding or destroying materials available to all (e.g. library or course materials), overloading an online or digital system to prevent the completion of an assignment or test, stealing a term paper or test, or improperly obtaining and then selling/distributing a term paper or test. • distribution of faculty intellectual property distribution of faculty intellectual property, either independently or through a third party, without the consent of the instructor/author is considered academic misconduct. d. non-academic misconduct: non-academic misconduct may be defined as any behaviour that: • adversely affects the learning of others or the college’s educational mission • violates civil or criminal statutes • threatens the safety or well-being of members of the college community • violates the ethical standards set by professional associations or the workplace standards set by practicum, clinical, or volunteer placement agencies common examples of non-academic misconduct include: • disruption of the learning environment, including classrooms, laboratories, study areas, the library, and student placement sites • exercise of force on any person or property or the threat of such force • verbal assault, abusive or offensive language, defamation, discrimination, retaliation, or harassment toward others • sexual assault or other sexual harassment • dissemination of malicious material which creates a climate that hinders or prevents the full participation of another person or group in the college community • unauthorized entry into, unauthorized use of, or misuse of college property, including facilities and equipment • theft of, intentional or careless damage to, or unlawful possession of college property, including its facilities and equipment, as well as the personal property of members of the college community • possession or use of any weapon or device that may reasonably be construed to be a weapon, explosives, fireworks, or dangerous chemical, regardless of whether the individual has a license to have such items • evidence of the consumption of alcohol or other substances that impair behavior or academic performance or adversely affect members of the college community • failure to adhere to college policies or the instructions of college personnel who are enforcing college policy, including refusing legitimate requests to produce identification or refusing to obey emergency procedures • violations of civil or criminal statutes where such violations adversely affect the college’s educational mission • neglect of safety procedures or intentional creation of safety hazards • failure to take part in established disciplinary procedures, knowingly violating approved disciplinary sanctions, or failure to follow legitimate directives from college personnel minor offense: • littering • use of phone, handphone, unauthorized electronic and mobile devices during curriculum time. • tardiness • absent without valid reason for the first time • damage/breaking of any school property major offense: • repeated minor offenses • plagiarism • cheating • self-plagiarism • impersonating another person in a test or exam • buying or otherwise obtaining term papers or assignments • unauthorized collaboration • improper access/obstruction of materials/systems • distribution of faculty intellectual property serious allegations: • sexual assault on college campuses • bullying of all kinds • falsifying, misrepresenting, or forging an academic record or supporting document • use of unauthorized aids during a test or exam e. student/trainee responsibilities and treated according to the study and examination regulations and other relevant rules in force. 12. students/trainees are not allowed to work in the public and private sector while enrolled at the coe
