অতঃপর তালূত যখন সৈন ্ য-সামন ্ ত নিয়ে বেরুল , তখন বলল , নিশ ্ চয় আল ্ লাহ তোমাদিগকে পরীক ্ ষা করবেন একটি নদীর মাধ ্ যমে । সুতরাং যে লোক সেই নদীর পানি পান করবে সে আমার নয় । আর যে , লোক তার স ্ বাদ গ ্ রহণ করলো না , নিশ ্ চয়ই সে আমার লোক । কিন ্ তু যে লোক হাতের আঁজলা ভরে সামান ্ য খেয়ে নেবে তার দোষঅবশ ্ য তেমন গুরুতর হবে না । অতঃপর সবাই পান করল সে পানি , সামান ্ য কয়েকজন ছাড়া । পরে তালূত যখন তা পার হলো এবং তার সাথে ছিল মাত ্ র কয়েকজন ঈমানদার , তখন তারা বলতে লাগল , আজকের দিনে জালূত এবং তার সেনাবাহিনীর সাথে যুদ ্ ধ করার শক ্ তি আমাদের নেই , যাদের ধারণা ছিল যে , আল ্ লাহর সামনে তাদের একদিন উপস ্ থিত হতে হবে , তারা বার বার বলতে লাগল , সামান ্ য দলই বিরাট দলের মোকাবেলায় জয়ী হয়েছে আল ্ লাহর হুকুমে । আর যারা ধৈর ্ য ্ যশীল আল ্ লাহ তাদের সাথে রয়েছেন ।
