unto an awful day,
மகத்தான ஒரு நாளுக்காக,

(it is) of the awful tidings,
மகத்தான அச்செய்தியைப் பற்றி,

and they persisted obstinately in awful sin,
ஆனால், அவர்கள் பெரும் பாவத்தின் மீது நிலைத்தும் இருந்தனர்.

and the mountains move with an awful motion:
இன்னும், மலைகள் தூள் துளாகி விடும் போது,

and the mountains move away with (awful) movement,
இன்னும், மலைகள் தூள் துளாகி விடும் போது,

as for thamud, they were destroyed by the awful cry!
எனவே, ஸமூது கூட்டத்தார் (அண்டம் கிடுகிடச் செய்யும்) பெரும் சப்தத்தால் அழிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

but the (awful) cry overtook them at the morning hour,

indeed, i fear for you the torment of an awful day."
(இதற்கு) அவர்கள்; "நீர் எங்களுக்கு உபதேசம் செய்தாலும் அல்லது நீர் எங்களுக்கு உபதேசம் செய்பவராக இல்லாதிருப்பினும் (இரண்டுமே) எங்களுக்கு சமம்தான்" எனக் கூறினார்கள்.

on the day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking.
வானம் துடித்துச் சுற்றிக் குமுறும் நாளில்,

on the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving,
வானம் துடித்துச் சுற்றிக் குமுறும் நாளில்,

and the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling,
இன்னும் மலைகள் தூள் தூளாக ஆக்கப்படும் போது,

say: i fear, if i rebel against my lord, the retribution of an awful day.
"நான் என் இறைவனுக்கு மாறு செய்தால், மகத்தான நாளில் (ஏற்படும்) வேதனையை நான் நிச்சயமாக பயப்படுகிறேன்" என்று கூறுவீராக.

the sects among them differ: but woe unto the disbelievers from the meeting of an awful day.
ஆனாலும், அவர்களிடையே இருந்த கூட்டத்தார் இது பற்றி(த் தங்களுக்குள்ளே) அபிப்பிராய பேதங் கொண்டனர். (சத்தியத்தை) நிராகரித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பவர்களுக்கு, அவர்கள் யாவரும் ஒன்று சேர்க்கப்படும் வலுப்பமான நாளில் கேடுதான்!

surely ye are more awful in their breasts than allah. that is because they are a people who understand not.
நிச்சயமாக, அவர்களுடைய இதயங்களில் அல்லாஹ்வை விட உங்களைப் பற்றிய பயமே பலமாக இருக்கிறது, (அல்லாஹ்வை விட்டும் அவர்கள் உங்களை அதிகம் அஞ்சுவதற்கு காரணம்) அவர்கள் (உண்மையை) உணர்ந்து கொள்ளாத சமூகத்தினராக இருப்பதனால்தான் இந்த நிலை!

had it not been for an ordinance of allah which had gone before, an awful doom had come upon you on account of what ye took.
அல்லாஹ்விடம் (உங்களுடைய மன்னிப்பு) ஏற்கனவே எழுதப்படாமலிருந்தால் நீங்கள் (போர்க் கைதிகளிடம் பத்ரில் ஈட்டுப் பணத்தை) எடுத்துக் கொண்டதன் காரணமாக உங்களை ஒரு பெரிய வேதனை பிடித்திருக்கும்.

and be ye not as those who separated and disputed after the clear proofs had come unto them. for such there is an awful doom,
(இறைவனின்) தெளிவான ஆதாரங்கள் தங்களிடம் வந்த பின்னரும், யார் தங்களுக்குள் பிரிவையுண்டுபண்ணிக் கொண்டு, மாறுபாடாகி விட்டார்களோ, அவர்கள் போன்று நீங்களும் ஆகிவிடாதீர்கள்;. அத்ததையோருக்குக் கடுமையான வேதனை உண்டு.

allah hath sealed their hearing and their hearts, and on their eyes there is a covering. theirs will be an awful doom.
அல்லாஹ் அவர்களின் இதயங்களிலும், அவர்கள் செவிப்புலன்களிலும் முத்திரை வைத்துவிட்டான்;, இன்னும் அவர்களின் பார்வை மீது ஒரு திரை கிடக்கிறது, மேலும் அவர்களுக்கு கடுமையான வேதனையுமுண்டு.

and accepteth those who do good works, and giveth increase unto them of his bounty. and as for disbelievers, theirs will be an awful doom.
அன்றியும் ஈமான் கொண்டு ஸாலிஹான (நல்ல) அமல் செய்பவர்(களின் பிரார்த்தனை)களையும் ஏற்று அவர்களுக்குத் தன் அருளை அதிகப்படுத்துகிறான்; இன்னும், நிராகரிப்பவர்களுக்கு கடுமையான வேதனையுண்டு.
