at that time herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of jesus,
በዚያ ዘመን የአራተኛው ክፍል ገዥ ሄሮድስ የኢየሱስን ዝና ሰማ፥

when herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all jerusalem with him.
ንጉሡ ሄሮድስም ሰምቶ ደነገጠ፥ ኢየሩሳሌምም ሁሉ ከእርሱ ጋር፤

for john had said unto herod, it is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
ዮሐንስ ሄሮድስን። የወንድምህ ሚስት ለአንተ ልትሆን አልተፈቀደም ይለው ነበርና።

then herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
ከዚህ በኋላ ሄሮድስ ሰብአ ሰገልን በስውር ጠርቶ ኮከቡ የታየበትን ዘመን ከእነርሱ በጥንቃቄ ተረዳ፥

and the same day pilate and herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
ሄሮድስና ጲላጦስም በዚያን ቀን እርስ በርሳቸው ወዳጆች ሆኑ፥ ቀድሞ በመካከላቸው ጥል ነበረና።

but when herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of herodias danced before them, and pleased herod.
ነገር ግን ሄሮድስ የተወለደበት ቀን በሆነ ጊዜ፥ የሄሮድያዳ ልጅ በመካከላቸው ዘፈነች ሄሮድስንም ደስ አሰኘችው፤

but when herod heard thereof, he said, it is john, whom i beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
ሄሮድስ ግን ሰምቶ። እኔ ራሱን ያስቈረጥሁት ዮሐንስ ይህ ነው እርሱ ከሙታን ተነሥቶአል አለ።

now when jesus was born in bethlehem of judaea in the days of herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to jerusalem,
ኢየሱስም በይሁዳ ቤተ ልሔም በንጉሡ በሄሮድስ ዘመን በተወለደ ጊዜ፥ እነሆ፥ ሰብአ ሰገል። የተወለደው የአይሁድ ንጉሥ ወዴት ነው? ኮከቡን በምሥራቅ አይተን ልንሰግድለት መጥተናልና እያሉ ከምሥራቅ ወደ ኢየሩሳሌም መጡ።

and herod said, john have i beheaded: but who is this, of whom i hear such things? and he desired to see him.
ሄሮድስም። ዮሐንስንስ እኔ ራሱን አስቈረጥሁት፤ ይህ እንዲህ ያለ ነገር የምሰማበት ማን ነው? አለ። ሊያየውም ይሻ ነበር።

and as soon as he knew that he belonged unto herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to herod, who himself also was at jerusalem at that time.
ከሄሮድስም ግዛት እንደ ሆነ ባወቀ ጊዜ ወደ ሄሮድስ ሰደደው፤ እርሱ ደግሞ በዚያ ጊዜ በኢየሩሳሌም ነበረና።

for herod had laid hold on john, and bound him, and put him in prison for herodias' sake, his brother philip's wife.
ሄሮድስ በወንድሙ በፊልጶስ ሚስት በሄሮድያዳ ምክንያት ዮሐንስን አስይዞ አሳስሮት በወህኒ አኑሮት ነበርና፤

and when herod would have brought him forth, the same night peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
ሄሮድስም ሊያወጣው ባሰበ ጊዜ፥ በዚያች ሌሊት ጴጥሮስ በሁለት ሰንሰለት ታስሮ ከሁለት ወታደሮች መካከል ተኝቶ ነበር፤ ጠባቂዎችም በደጁ ፊት ሆነው ወኅኒውን ይጠብቁ ነበር።

for herod feared john, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
ሄሮድስ ዮሐንስ ጻድቅና ቅዱስ ሰው እንደ ሆነ አውቆ ይፈራውና ይጠባበቀው ነበር፤ እርሱንም ሰምቶ በብዙ ነገር ያመነታ ነበር፤

for of a truth against thy holy child jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both herod, and pontius pilate, with the gentiles, and the people of israel, were gathered together,
በቀባኸው በቅዱሱ ብላቴናህ በኢየሱስ ላይ ሄሮድስና ጴንጤናዊው ጲላጦስ ከአሕዛብና ከእስራኤል ሕዝብ ጋር፥ እጅህና አሳብህ እንዲሆን አስቀድመው የወሰኑትን ሁሉ ሊፈጽሙ፥ በዚች ከተማ በእውነት ተሰበሰቡ።

there was in the days of herod, the king of judaea, a certain priest named zacharias, of the course of abia: and his wife was of the daughters of aaron, and her name was elisabeth.
በይሁዳ ንጉሥ በሄሮድስ ዘመን ከአብያ ክፍል የሆነ ዘካርያስ የሚባል አንድ ካህን ነበረ፤ ሚስቱም ከአሮን ልጆች ነበረች፥ ስምዋም ኤልሳቤጥ ነበረ።

በአንጾኪያም ባለችው ቤተ ክርስቲያን ነቢያትና መምህራን ነበሩ፤ እነርሱም በርናባስ፥ ኔጌር የተባለው ስምዖንም፥ የቀሬናው ሉክዮስም፥ የአራተኛው ክፍል ገዥ የሄሮድስም ባለምዋል ምናሔ፥ ሳውልም ነበሩ።
