this is an important way ofachieving acp-ec shared objectives for the forest sector.co-operation shall pursue the following objectives: a) support the development and implementation of apolicy framework, on a participatory basis, favourableto the forest sector at national and international levels,in order to maintain the multifunctional roles of forestsand reconcile conflicting demands placed on them, andaiming at sustainable utilization and preservation oftropical timber productive forests and their geneticresources as well as the maintenance of an ecologicalbalance in the regions concerned; a) conservation of endangered tropical forests and theirbiodiversity and regeneration of the functions of tropicalforests which have been damaged, through reduceduncontrolled deforestation and forest degradation, onthe basis of a sharing of responsibilities between thevarious stakeholders having an interest in forests andtaking into account in particular the views of those livingin or from forests; b) improve, at field level, sustainability of interventionsin forest conservation and management, promote agroforestry and other sustainable and socially equitableforms of land use which have an impact on forests, andsupport locally adapted re-afforestation and forestmanagement activities as well as restoration of thefertility of degraded forest lands; b) increased extent of areas under sustainable forestmanagement; c) increased equitable revenue from forest products; d) maintained genetic resources and biodiversity; c) improve the efficiency of utilisation and processingof wood and non-wood forest products, throughequitable and comprehensive approaches, and supportmeasures to increase the share of timber and nontimber products from sustainable sources within theoverall production of this sector; e) expanded forest-related knowledge base.
