meromorphic function

in this context it is often useful to consider meromorphic functions as maps into the riemann sphere taking the value of formula_1 at the poles.

there are inclusions of the disc in the plane in the sphere: formula_5 but any meromorphic map from the sphere to the plane is constant, any holomorphic map from the plane into the unit disk is constant (liouville's theorem), and in fact any holomorphic map from the plane into the plane minus two points is constant (little picard theorem)!
