there are some among them who distort the book by the way they speak to make you think that what they say is from the book, whereas it is not. they say it is from god whereas it is not. thus they tell a lie about god and they know it.
நிச்சயமாக அவர்களில் ஒரு பிரிவார் இருக்கின்றார்கள் - அவர்கள் வேதத்தை ஓதும்போதுத் தங்கள் நாவுகளைச் சாய்த்து ஓதுகிறார்கள் - (அதனால் உண்டாகும் மாற்றங்களையும்) வேதத்தின் ஒரு பகுதிதானென்று நீங்கள் எண்ணிக் கொள்வதற்காக. ஆனால் அது வேதத்தில் உள்ளதல்ல "அது அல்லாஹ்விடம் இருந்து (வந்தது)" என்றும் அவர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள்; ஆனால் அது அல்லாஹ்விடமிருந்து (வந்ததும்) அல்ல. இன்னும் அறிந்து கொண்டே அவர்கள் அல்லாஹ்வின் மீது பொய் கூறுகின்றார்கள்.

and thus did we reveal to you an inspired book by our command. you did not know what the book was, nor (what) the faith (was), but we made it a light, guiding thereby whom we please of our servants; and most surely you show the way to the right path:
(நபியே!) இவ்வாறே நாம் நம்முடைய கட்டளையில் ஆன்மாவானதை (குர்ஆனை) வஹீ மூலமாக உமக்கு அறிவித்திருக்கிறோம்; (அதற்கு முன்னர்) வேதம் என்பதோ ஈமான் என்பதோ என்னவென்று நீர் அறிபவராக இருக்கவில்லை - எனினும் நாம் அதை ஒளியாக ஆக்கி, நம் அடியார்களில நாம் விரும்பியோருக்கு இதைக் கொண்டு நேர்வழி காட்டுகிறோம் - நிச்சயமாக நீர் (மக்களை) நேரான பதையில் வழி காண்பிக்கின்றீர்.
