a imaxe anterior mostra unha vista típica do programa kstars. pódese ver o visor do ceo centrado en betelgeuse, a estrela máis brillante da constelación de orión. orión acaba de ascender sobre o horizonte oriental. as estrelas móstranse con cores realistas e brillo relativo. en tres recantos do visor do ceo hai textos sobre a pantalla que mostran datos sobre a hora actual (lt: 16: 38: 42 23 jan 2008), o lugar xeográfico actual (tucson, arizona, usa) e o obxecto actual no centro do visor (centrado en betelgeuse (alpha orionis)). por riba do visor do ceo hai dúas barras de ferramentas. a barra de ferramentas principal contén atallos ás funcións do menú, así como un selector de pasos de tempo que controla a velocidade coa que se executa o reloxo de simulación. a barra de ferramentas da vista contén botóns que alternan como se mostran diferentes tipos de obxectos do ceo. no fondo da xanela hai unha barra de estado que mostra o nome de calquera obxecto que se prema e as coordenadas celestes (ascensión recta/ declinación e azimut/ altitude) do cursor do rato.
the above screenshot shows a typical view of the kstars program. you can see the sky display centered on betelgeuse, the brightest star in the constellation orion. orion has just risen above the eastern horizon. stars are displayed with realistic colors and relative brightnesses. in three corners of the sky display, there are on-screen text labels displaying data on the current time (lt: 16:38:42 23 jan 2008), the current geographic location (tucson, arizona, usa), and the current object in the center of the display (focused on: betelgeuse (alpha orionis)). above the sky display, there are two toolbars. the main toolbar contains shortcuts for menu functions, as well as a time-step widget which controls how fast the simulation clock runs. the view toolbar contains buttons that toggle the display of different kinds of objects in the sky. at the bottom of the window, there is a status bar which displays the name of any object you click on, and the sky coordinates (both right ascension/ declination and azimuth/ altitude) of the mouse cursor.
