the pronotum is brown.

het halsschild is ook roodbruin.
the torax is red too and it is larger.

de rand om het halsschild is wit.
the edge around the neck shield is white.

the eyes are quite far from the pronotum.

the pronotum of the female is the completely black.

there is a little groove on both sides of the neckshield.

on the side of the pronotum is a white part.

these two species are recognizable by the white pronotum.

at the front corners of the pronotum is clearly a small tooth.

in the male, the pronotum is orange red with black in the middle.

the pronotum has a white border, at the end of the elytra is a bump.

this larva has a brown spot behind the neck shield on the right, which can also be seen on the picture at left.

the species is brachypterous: the male's forewings are reduced to small flaps, and those of the female are even more reduced.

the most important thing: the neck shield must be round and not curved in, and it is, but again: not convincing enough.

in order to identify it pay attention to the fact that it is all black, except for the edges of the neck shield which are red or orange or yelloworange.

the neck shield seems to lift free from the body, but that is an optical illusion, caused by its lighter colour, next to a dark boarder that looks like a shadow. the air bubble on the belly is also visible, a keel-shaped protrusion at the front part of the under side makes it possible to hold a larger bubble
