Երբ կէս գիշեր եղաւ, Տէրը Եգիպտացիների երկրում կոտորեց եգիպտացի բոլոր անդրանիկ զաւակներին՝ իր գահին բազմած փարաւոնի անդրանիկից մինչեւ բանտի մէջ արգելափակուած գերի կնոջ անդրանիկը, նաեւ անասունների բոլոր առաջնածինները:
and it came to pass, that at midnight the lord smote all the firstborn in the land of egypt, from the firstborn of pharoah that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

Այդ գիշեր ես պիտի անցնեմ Եգիպտացիների ամբողջ երկրով եւ պիտի պատուհասեմ Եգիպտացիների երկրի բոլոր արու առաջնածիններին՝ թէ՛ մարդկանց, թէ՛ անասունների: Եգիպտացիների բոլոր աստուածներից վրէժ պիտի լուծեմ, որովհետեւ ե՛ս եմ Տէրը:
