according to a recent survey, carried out in collaboration with the ibm institute for business value, the united arab emirates are in thirtieth position in the sphere of openness to electronics (the so-called e-readiness) among the 68 world leaders in economy, occupying, what is more, first place among the arab countries. the countries classified were evaluated on the basis of more than 100 criterion points, subdivided into 6 categories: connectivity and technological infrastructures, environment for business, approval on the part of customers and businessmen and legal policy. this flattering result represents, however, merely a spur to the united arab emirates to accomplish even more, given that they consider themselves to be only at the beginning of the internet-journey. the internet is an instrument the potential of which remains largely to be discovered (and invented), capable of notably improving both the public and private spheres.
