and he marvelled because of their unbelief. and he went round about the villages, teaching.

for as ye in times past have not believed god, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

thus we recompensed them for their unbelief; and do 'we ever recompense any hut the unbeliever?
そのようにわれは，かれらが不信心であったために報いた。われが，不信心（恩を忘れる）者以外に報復などしようか。

those who barter unbelief for faith, will not harm god in the least, and the punishment for them will be painful.
信仰の代りに不信心を購なった者は，少しもアッラーを損えない。かれらは手痛い懲罰を受けるであろう。

so that he who disbelieves will bear the consequence of his unbelief; and he who does the right will straighten out the way for himself,
不信心の者は，その不信心のために責めを負う。また正しい行いの者は，自分自身のため（天国に）褥を用意するようなもの。

we have given examples of every kind to men in this qur'an in various ways, and even then most men disdain everything but unbelief,
われはクルアーンの中で，種々の比(輪?)を挙げて人びとに説明した。それでも人びとの多くは，不信心一筋に（その受け入れを）拒否する。

and their prayer at the house is nothing but a whistling and a clapping of hands -- therefore taste you now the chastisement for your unbelief!
（アッラーの）家におけるかれらの礼拝ぶりは，只ロ笛を吹いて両手で拍手するに過ぎない。あなたがたは不信心であったのだから懲罰を味わえ。

and they say: our hearts are hardened. nay, but allah hath cursed them for their unbelief. little is that which they believe.
かれらは「わたしたちの心は覆われている」と言う。そうではない，アッラーはかれらをその冒(濳?)のために見限られたのである。したがって信仰に入る者は極く希である。

surely those who disbelieve after they have believed and then increase in unbelief -- their repentance shall not be accepted; those are the ones who stray.
だが一度信仰した後不信心になり，不信心を増長した者は，悔悟しても決して受け入れられないであろう。かれらは迷い去った者である。

do you too, o believers, wish to question your apostle as moses was in the past? but he who takes unbelief in exchange for belief only strays from the right path.
あなたがたは，以前ムーサーが問いただされたように，あなたがたの使徒に詰問しようとするのか。本当に信仰の代わりに不信心を選ぶ者は，公正な道から迷い去った者である。

do you [all] want to question your messenger just as moses was questioned previously? anyone who exchanges faith for unbelief has strayed from the right path.
あなたがたは，以前ムーサーが問いただされたように，あなたがたの使徒に詰問しようとするのか。本当に信仰の代わりに不信心を選ぶ者は，公正な道から迷い去った者である。

and when they come to you, they say: we believe; and indeed they come in with unbelief and indeed they go forth with it; and allah knows best what they concealed.
かれらがあなたがたの許に来た時，「わたしたちは信仰する。」と言った。だがかれらは実に不信心で入り，また不信心で出て行く者たちである。アッラーはかれらの隠すことを熟知なされる。

and they say: "our hearts are enfolded in covers." in fact god has cursed them for their unbelief; and only a little do they believe.
かれらは「わたしたちの心は覆われている」と言う。そうではない，アッラーはかれらをその冒(濳?)のために見限られたのである。したがって信仰に入る者は極く希である。

and when jesus perceived their unbelief, he said, 'who will be my helpers unto god?' the apostles said, 'we will be helpers of god; we believe in god; witness thou our submission.
イーサーは，かれらが信じないのを察知して，言った。「アッラー （の道）のために，わたしを助ける者は誰か。」弟子たちは言った。「わたしたちは，アッラー（の道）の援助者です。わたしたちはアッラーを信じます。わたしたちがムスリムであることの証人となって下さい。
