we asked bhagavan once, “swami, how is it that you’re always blissful?”

ebbene, come mai tu, che insegni agli altri, non insegni a te stesso? tu che predichi di non rubare, rubi?
you therefore who teach another, don't you teach yourself? you who preach that a man shouldn't steal, do you steal?

chi ha visto me, ha visto il padre; come mai tu dici: mostraci il padre?" (verso 9).
he that hath seen me hath seen the father; and how sayest thou then, shew us the father?" (verse 9).

come mai tu no? ho ricevuto tanti doni da bhagavan, e a te niente. io lavoro nei suoi istituti e tu no. io ho qui un appartamento, e tu non puoi neppure sederti sotto un albero.
why don’t you have any? i have many gifts from bhagavan, while you don’t have any. i'm working in his institution, while you are not. i own a flat here, while you cannot even sit under a tree.” (laughter)

4:9 ma la samaritana gli disse: «come mai tu, che sei giudeo, chiedi da bere a me, che sono una donna samaritana?». i giudei infatti non mantengono buone relazioni con i samaritani.
9 therefore the samaritan woman *said to him, "how is it that you, being a jew, ask me for a drink since i am a samaritan woman?" (for jews have no dealings with samaritans.)
