margherita mauro: sicuramente la casa di campagna in cui si svolge le signorine di wilko rappresenta un ‘mondo a parte’ rispetto ad una realtà post-bellica.
margherita mauro: the country house in which le signorine di wilko takes place is certainly ‘a world apart’ if compared to the aftermath of war.

all’interno del podere si respira un diffuso sentimento di disperazione e le signorine conducono un’esistenza sommersa da montagne di segreti, silenzi gravosi, aspettative tramontate e desideri sessuali messi a tacere.
a sense of despair hovers over the farm, and the girls’ existence is burdened with many secrets, excruciating silences, faded expectations and suffocated sexual desires.
