reaction paper: the devil wears pradathe devil wears prada depicts a glimpse into the inner workings of organizations whichare complex and fascinating entities that consist of a group of people, who work together.analyzing how the characters, as individuals and groups, interact with one another allows for anunderstanding of "how people think, feel and act" within an organization and also within theirpersonal lives. as with nearly any group, organizations contain and operate among manydifferent dynamics.within these dynamics emerges the potential for creativity, diversity,teamwork, exploration, and success.included in those dynamics, however, is also the potentialfor dangerous and/or unhealthy practices, which ultimately affect not only the organization butthe individuals within the organization, as well.the movie, set at runway fashion magazine in new york city, is the story of andreasachs, a college graduate, aspiring journalist who gets the job that "a million girls would killfor", being the second assistant to miranda priestly, the powerful and ruthless editor in chief ofrunway. the job is her stepping stone into the world of publishing and if she lasts a year in theoften unreasonably demanding position, it will open up opportunities to the journalistic positionshe desires. andrea works in collaboration with the first assistant, emily charlton, to quicklylearn miranda's behavior and preferences, so that she can try to meet expectations.runway is a company run mostly by women, and headed by the very head strong and powerfulmiranda priestly. at runway you become an outsider if you are not up on the latest fashions,which makes sense as they are a fashion magazine. it doesn't seem like people are under theimpression that you could not do your job there if you don't dress well, but rather ask, why evenwork there if you don't embrace all that high fashion runway is encouraging. in any other jobexactly what you wear would not be important because it has little to do your actual job. thisputs pressure on the main character, andrea to either change or leave because she is continuallybullied about how she doesn't fit in due to the way she dresses. no one pays attention to the workshe does until she does change.one of the premises of organizational behavior is “we do not have the luxury of notworking with or relate to other people.”
