but in their pride they turn away from the commandment of their lord and the thunderbolt struck them whilst they were looking;

but they disobeyed the command of their lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape,

but they rebelled against their lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed;

then maybe my lord will give me what is better than your garden, and send on it a thunderbolt from heaven so that it shall become even ground without plant,
шояд Парвардигори ман маро чизе беҳтар аз боғи ту диҳад. Шояд бар он боғ соъиқае (офате) бифиристад ва онро ба замине софу лағзанда бадал созад.

and as for thamud, we guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.
Аммо қавми Самуд, ҳидояташон кардем. Ва онҳо куриро аз ҳидоят бештар дӯст медоштанд, то он ки ба хотири амалҳое, ки мекарданд, соъиқаи азоби хоркунанда онҳоро фурӯ гирифт.

and when you said, 'moses, we will not believe thee till we see god openly'; and the thunderbolt took you while you were beholding.
Ва он ҳамгонро, ки гуфтед: «Эй Мӯсо, мо то Худоро ба ошкор набинем, ба ту имон намеоварем». Ва ҳамчунон ки менигаристед, соӣиқа (оташак, барқ) шуморо фурӯ гирифт.

and as for thamood, we guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance. so the thunderbolt of the humiliating punishment seized them, because of what they used to earn.
Аммо қавми Самуд, ҳидояташон кардем. Ва онҳо куриро аз ҳидоят бештар дӯст медоштанд, то он ки ба хотири амалҳое, ки мекарданд, соъиқаи азоби хоркунанда онҳоро фурӯ гирифт.

and when you said to moses: 'we will not believe in you until we see allah openly' a thunderbolt struck you whilst you were looking.
Ва он ҳамгонро, ки гуфтед: «Эй Мӯсо, мо то Худоро ба ошкор набинем, ба ту имон намеоварем». Ва ҳамчунон ки менигаристед, соӣиқа (оташак, барқ) шуморо фурӯ гирифт.

and recall what time ye said: o musa! we will not believe in thee until we see god openly; then a thunderbolt took hold of you while ye looked on.
Ва он ҳамгонро, ки гуфтед: «Эй Мӯсо, мо то Худоро ба ошкор набинем, ба ту имон намеоварем». Ва ҳамчунон ки менигаристед, соӣиқа (оташак, барқ) шуморо фурӯ гирифт.

but surely they asked musa a thing greater than that; they said: shew us god manifestly; whencefore the thunderbolt overtook them for their wrong-doing.
Инҳо бузургтар аз инро аз Мӯсо талаб карданд ва гуфтанд: «Худоро ба ошкор ба мо нишон деҳ». Ба сабаби ин сухани куфромезашон оташак онҳоро фурӯ гирифт.

and regarding the thamud, we showed them the right path – so they chose to be blind above being guided, therefore the thunderbolt of the disgraceful punishment overcame them – the recompense of their deeds.
Аммо қавми Самуд, ҳидояташон кардем. Ва онҳо куриро аз ҳидоят бештар дӯст медоштанд, то он ки ба хотири амалҳое, ки мекарданд, соъиқаи азоби хоркунанда онҳоро фурӯ гирифт.

"it may be that my lord will give me something better than thy garden, and that he will send on thy garden thunderbolts (by way of reckoning) from heaven, making it (but) slippery sand!-
шояд Парвардигори ман маро чизе беҳтар аз боғи ту диҳад. Шояд бар он боғ соъиқае (офате) бифиристад ва онро ба замине софу лағзанда бадал созад.
