the picture shows a view into a side fired special glass furnace. one can see the back of the doghouse, the molten glass covered with batch up to the row of bubblers installed, among other things, to prevent the batch piles from flowing through, and the flames as well. the rapidly increasing corrosion at the glass level (surface of melt) can be noticed in the right half of the picture.
