in un giardino preesistente presso un grande bungalow degli anni sessanta abbiamo dovuto riconciliare tra loro i requisiti contrastanti dei nuovi proprietari e al contempo mettere meglio in evidenza l’architettura modernista. il marito voleva un giardino rigoroso, formale, con un ampio prato, mentre la moglie voleva un giardino più organico, con molte piante e fiori. perciò abbiamo applicato qui un sistema di ‘micro-planting’: intorno alla casa e lungo la terrazza che porta alla piscina, abbiamo posato un patchwork di grandi pietre naturali, tra le quali abbiamo collocato un misto, molto ricco dal punto di vista botanico, di piante rupestri, felci, piante perenni floreali ed erbe ornamentali… piccole, basse siepi di bosso introducono un po’ di formalità, ma costituiscono al contempo piccole zone di piante con aiuole di fiori ed un giardino delle erbe.
in an existing garden at the side of a big bungalow built in the 1960s, we have tried to reconcile some conflicting demands while remaining faithful to the modernist architecture. the master of the house wanted a rigid and formal garden with an extended enclosure, the mistress of the house was dreaming more of an organic garden with many flowers and plants. this is why we have applied a system of ‘microplanting’ – around the house and along the terrace that leads to the swimming pool, we have constructed a patchwork of large natural stones with a very rich botanic mix of rock plants, of ferns, flowering perennials and ornamental grasses among them. dwarf hedges introduce a sense of formality but at the same time create little parterres and a herb garden.
