abraham replied, "peace be on you: i will pray to my lord for your forgiveness, he has indeed been gracious to me,
(ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے) کہا: (اچھا) تمہیں سلام، میں اب (بھی) اپنے رب سے تمہارے لئے بخشش مانگوں گا، بیشک وہ مجھ پر بہت مہربان ہے (شاید تمہیں ہدایت عطا فرما دے)،

abraham said: "peace be on thee: i will pray to my lord for thy forgiveness: for he is to me most gracious.
(ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے) کہا: (اچھا) تمہیں سلام، میں اب (بھی) اپنے رب سے تمہارے لئے بخشش مانگوں گا، بیشک وہ مجھ پر بہت مہربان ہے (شاید تمہیں ہدایت عطا فرما دے)،

he said: peace be on you, i will pray to my lord to forgive you; surely he is ever affectionate to me:
(ابراہیم علیہ السلام نے) کہا: (اچھا) تمہیں سلام، میں اب (بھی) اپنے رب سے تمہارے لئے بخشش مانگوں گا، بیشک وہ مجھ پر بہت مہربان ہے (شاید تمہیں ہدایت عطا فرما دے)،

i will separate myself from you and from whatever you call upon besides god, and i will pray only to my lord. it may well be that, in calling on my lord, i will not be disappointed."
اور آپ کو آپ کے معبودوں سمیت چھوڑ کر الگ ہوجاؤں گا اور اپنے رب کو آواز دوں گا کہ اس طرح میں اپنے پروردگار کی عبادت سے محروم نہ رہوں گا

and i will withdraw from you, and from what you pray to instead of god. and i will pray to my lord, and i hope i will not be disappointed in my prayer to my lord.”
اور آپ کو آپ کے معبودوں سمیت چھوڑ کر الگ ہوجاؤں گا اور اپنے رب کو آواز دوں گا کہ اس طرح میں اپنے پروردگار کی عبادت سے محروم نہ رہوں گا

and when they are cast into a narrow place in it, bound together [in chains], they will pray for [their own] annihilation.
اور جب اس کی کسی تنگ جگہ میں ڈالے جائیں گے زنجیروں میں جکڑے ہوئے تو وہاں موت مانگیں گے

and when it is said to them, "come, the messenger of allah will pray for your forgiveness", they turn aside their heads, and thou wouldst see them turning away their faces in arrogance.
اور جب ان سے کہا جائے کہ آؤ تمہارے لیے رسول الله مغفرت طلب کریں تو اپنے سر پھیر لیتے ہیں اور آپ انہیں دیکھیں گے کہ وہ رکتے ہیں ایسے حال میں کہ وہ تکبر کرنے والے ہیں

there is for you an excellent example (to follow) in abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: "we are clear of you and of whatever ye worship besides allah: we have rejected you, and there has arisen, between us and you, enmity and hatred for ever,- unless ye believe in allah and him alone": but not when abraham said to his father: "i will pray for forgiveness for thee, though i have no power (to get) aught on thy behalf from allah." (they prayed): "our lord! in thee do we trust, and to thee do we turn in repentance: to thee is (our) final goal.
(مسلمانو!) تمہارے لیے حضرت ابراہیم میں اور ان کے ساتھیوں میں بہترین نمونہ ہے، جبکہ ان سب نے اپنی قوم سے برملا کہہ دیا کہ ہم تم سے اور جن جن کی تم اللہ کے سوا عبادت کرتے ہو ان سب سے بالکل بیزار ہیں۔ ہم تمہارے (عقائد کے) منکر ہیں جب تک تم اللہ کی وحدانیت پر ایمان نہ ﻻؤ ہم میں تم میں ہمیشہ کے لیے بغض وعداوت ﻇاہر ہوگئی لیکن ابراہیم کی اتنی بات تو اپنے باپ سے ہوئی تھی کہ میں تمہارے لیے استغفار ضرور کروں گا اور تمہارے لیے مجھے اللہ کے سامنے کسی چیز کا اختیار کچھ بھی نہیں۔ اے ہمارے پروردگار تجھی پر ہم نے بھروسہ کیا ہے اور تیری ہی طرف رجوع کرتے ہیں اور تیری ہی طرف لوٹنا ہے
