it comprised studies into image production with picosecond impulse lasers, laser resistance of the individual components and basic research into the miniaturisation of monochrome laser systems.

in decision no 91-d-53 of 26 november 1991 on a restrictive practice engaged in by quantel and continuum in the pulsed laser industry, the council decided not to act pending a judgment of the court of first instance of the european communities, which had an action before it challenging a commission refusalto grant exemption; the council took the view that, although its own examination of the case would bebased on the domestic rules, it would nevertheless be affected by the court's assessment.
