now, some of them wrong themselves and some follow the medium course; and some, by allah's leave, vie with each other in acts of goodness.
Баъзе бар худ ситам карданд ва баъзе роҳи миёнаро баргузиданд ва баъзе ба фармони Худо дар корҳои нек пешӣ гирифтанд.

say thou: in both is a great sin, and some benefits for men, but the sin of them is for greater than their benefit.
Бигӯ: «Дар он ду гуноҳе бузург ва нафъҳоест барои мардум. Ва гуноҳашон аз нафъашон бештар аст».

say: "in them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit."
Бигӯ: «Дар он ду гуноҳе бузург ва нафъҳоест барои мардум. Ва гуноҳашон аз нафъашон бештар аст».

say: in both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness.
Бигӯ: «Дар он ду гуноҳе бузург ва нафъҳоест барои мардум. Ва гуноҳашон аз нафъашон бештар аст».

each we seized for his sin; and of them against some we loosed a squall of pebbles and some were seized by the cry, and some we made the earth to swallow, and some we drowned; god would never wrong them, but they wronged themselves.
Ҳамаро ба гуноҳашон фурӯ гирифтем: бар баъзе бодҳои регбор фиристодем, баъзеро фарёди сахт фурӯ гирифт, баъзеро дар замин фурӯ бурдем, баъзеро ғарқ сохтем. Ва Худо ба онҳо ситам намекард, онҳо худ ба худашон ситам карда буданд.

they ask you the decree regarding wine (intoxicants) and gambling; say (o dear prophet mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), “in both is great sin, and some worldly benefit for men – but their sin is greater than their benefit”; and they ask you what they should spend; say, “that which remains spare (surplus)”; this is how allah explains his verses to you, so that you may think.
Бигӯ: «Он чӣ афзун ояд». Худо оётро инчунин барои шумо баён мекунад, бошад, ки дар кори дунё ва охират бияндешед.
