and he said, i have been very jealous for the lord god of hosts: because the children of israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and i, even i only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

et iuravit rursum david et ille ait scit profecto pater tuus quia inveni gratiam in oculis tuis et dicet nesciat hoc ionathan ne forte tristetur quinimmo vivit dominus et vivit anima tua quia uno tantum ut ita dicam gradu ego morsque dividimu
and david sware moreover, and said, thy father certainly knoweth that i have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, let not jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
