auf „year zero“ entwirft nin mastermind trent reznor ein wahrhaft apokalyptisches szenario, in einer nicht allzu fernen zukunft angesiedelt, wo die menschheit kurz vor der ausrottung steht. ob nun tatsächlich eine macht von außen, sprich den weiten des alls, oder von innen, sprich wahnsinniger machthaber, dafür verantwortlich sind, bleibt auch nach lektüre der durchweg verstörenden texte unklar... abgesehen vom usbm hat das label wohl recht, wenn es „year zero“ als das politischste album der band bezeichnet, siehe z. b. „survivalism“-video (= singleauskopplung).
