(روزِ قیامت کی) سب سے بڑی ہولناکی (بھی) انہیں رنجیدہ نہیں کرے گی اور فرشتے ان کا استقبال کریں گے (اور کہیں گے:) یہ تمہارا (ہی) دن ہے جس کا تم سے وعدہ کیا جاتا رہا،

they will have safety from the mighty terror, and angels will receive them, (saying:) "this is your day which had been promised you."
(روزِ قیامت کی) سب سے بڑی ہولناکی (بھی) انہیں رنجیدہ نہیں کرے گی اور فرشتے ان کا استقبال کریں گے (اور کہیں گے:) یہ تمہارا (ہی) دن ہے جس کا تم سے وعدہ کیا جاتا رہا،

they said, ‘so has your lord said. indeed he is the all-wise, the all-knowing.’
(انہوں نے) کہا (ہاں) تمہارے پروردگار نے یوں ہی فرمایا ہے۔ وہ بےشک صاحبِ حکمت (اور) خبردار ہے

for when they are asked: "what has your lord sent down?" they say: "tales of long ago."
ان سے جب دریافت کیا جاتا ہے کہ تمہارے پروردگار نے کیا نازل فرمایا ہے؟ تو جواب دیتے ہیں کہ اگلوں کی کہانیاں ہیں

they will not be grieved by the greatest terror, and the angels will meet them, [saying], "this is your day which you have been promised" -
(روزِ قیامت کی) سب سے بڑی ہولناکی (بھی) انہیں رنجیدہ نہیں کرے گی اور فرشتے ان کا استقبال کریں گے (اور کہیں گے:) یہ تمہارا (ہی) دن ہے جس کا تم سے وعدہ کیا جاتا رہا،

and if they are asked: 'what has your lord revealed' they say: 'tales of the ancients, fairytales'
ان سے جب دریافت کیا جاتا ہے کہ تمہارے پروردگار نے کیا نازل فرمایا ہے؟ تو جواب دیتے ہیں کہ اگلوں کی کہانیاں ہیں

and how come when a calamity befell you, you began to ask: 'how has this come about?' even though the enemy has suffered at your hands (in the battle of badr) double what you have suffered! say: this calamity has been brought about by yourselves. surely allah is ail-powerful.
(اے مسلمانو! تمہارا کیا حال ہے) کہ جب تم پر (جنگ احد میں) کوئی ایسی مصیبت آپڑی جس سے دگنی مصیبت تمہاری اپنی لائی ہوئی ہے۔ اللہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے۔
