and if they turn away, then know well that allah has indeed decided to afflict them for some of their sins.

and surely we shall bear patiently that with which ye afflict us and in allah then let the trustful put their trust.

and (as for) those who reject our communications, chastisement shall afflict them because they transgressed.

allah said: as to my chastisement, therewith afflict whomsoever i will and as to my mercy, it comprehendeth everything.

and fear the trial that shall not afflict those alone who among you do wrong; and know that verily allah severe in chastising.

there are also people whom we shall allow to enjoy themselves for a while, and then a painful chastisement from us shall afflict them.'

behold! thy lord did declare that he would send against them, to the day of judgment, those who would afflict them with grievous penalty.
i oto ogłosił twój pan: "ja z pewnością podniosę przeciwko nim, aż do dnia zmartwychwstania, tych, którzy będą im zadawać dotkliwe cierpienia."

[as for the unrighteous] we shall grant provision for a time, then a grievous punishment from us shall afflict them."

say, "do you await for us except one of the two best things while we await for you that allah will afflict you with punishment from himself or at our hands?
powiedz: "czyż wy oczekujecie dla nas czegoś innego niż dwóch najpiękniejszych? bo my oczekujemy dla was, iż dosięgnie was bóg karą pochodzącą od niego lub przez nasze ręce.

[allah] said, "my punishment - i afflict with it whom i will, but my mercy encompasses all things."
powiedział: "ja dosięgam moją karą, kogo chcę, a moje miłosierdzie obejmuje każdą rzecz.

otherwise, if disaster should afflict them because of that which their own hands have sent before (them), they might say: our lord!
bo inaczej, jeśliby ich dosięgło jakieś nieszczęście za to, co przygotowały pierwej ich ręce, oni by powiedzieli: "panie nasz!
