surely we put solomon to the test and cast upon his throne a mere body. thereupon he penitently turned (to us).
e pusemos à prova salomão, colocando sobre o seu trono um corpo sem vida; então, voltou-se contrito.

‘our lord! in you do we put our trust, and to you do we turn penitently, and toward you is the destination.
(dizei, ó crentes): Ósenhor nosso, a ti nos encomendamos e a ti nos voltamos contritos, porque para ti será o retorno;

plead with your lord for forgiveness, then turn to him penitently. he will provide you with a good provision for a specified term and grant his grace to every meritorious person.
implorai o perdão de vosso senhor e voltai-vos a ele, arrependidos, que ele vos agraciará generosamente até um términoprefixado, e agraciará com o merecido a cada um que tiver mérito.

say, ‘indeed allah leads astray whomever he wishes, and guides to himself those who turn penitently [to him]
responde-lhes: deus deixa que se desvie aquem lhe apraz e encaminha até ele os contritos,

but if they urge you to ascribe to me as partner that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. keep their company honourably in this world and follow the way of those who turn to me penitently.
porém, se te constrangerem a associar-me o que tu ignoras, não lhes obedeças; comporta-te com eles com benevolêncianeste mundo, e segue a senda de quem se voltou contrito a mim.

and if the twain strive with thee to make thee associate with me that for which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. and bear them thou company in the world reputably, and follow thou the path of him who turneth penitently unto me.
porém, se te constrangerem a associar-me o que tu ignoras, não lhes obedeças; comporta-te com eles com benevolêncianeste mundo, e segue a senda de quem se voltou contrito a mim.

and when hurt toucheth mankind they cry unto their lord, turning penitently unto him; then when he causeth them to taste of his mercy, lo! a part of them with their lord associate others.
quando a adversidade açoita os humanos, suplicam contritos ao seu senhor; mas, quando os agracia com a suamisericórdia, eis que alguns deles atribuem parceiros ao seu senhor,

when any affliction befalls man, he cries out to his lord, penitently turning to him. but when his lord bestows his favour upon him, he forgets the affliction regarding which he had cried out and sets up compeers to allah that they may lead others astray from his path.
e quando a adversidade açoita o homem, este suplica contrito ao seu senhor; então, quando ele o agracia com a suamercê, este esquece o que antes suplicava e atribui rivais a deus, para desviar outros as sua senda.

and i desire not, in order to oppose you, to do that which i forbid i desire not but rectification, so far you as i am able, and my hope of success is not save with allah; in him i rely and unto him i turn penitently.
nãopretendo contrariar-vos, a não ser no que ele vos vedou; só desejo a vossa melhoria, de acordo com a minha capacidade; emeu êxito só depende de deus, a quem me encomendo e a quem retornarei, contrito.
