si tratta dell'opera di due artisti greci attivi a roma phidias e ammonios, come testimonia l'iscrizione sul lato sinistro del basamento, raffigurante un "macaco" - in realtà il dio thot nelle sembianze del cinocefalo - poi storpiato in dialetto romanesco nel termine "cacco", da cui deriva il nome della chiesa di s. stefano, nei pressi della quale la statua venne rinvenuta nel medioevo.
this is the work of two greek artists active in rome: phidias and ammonios, as testified by the inscription on the left side of the base, showing a "macaque" - actually the god thot in the image of the dog-headed one - then distorted in roman dialect into the term "cacco", whence the name of the church of s. stefano, near which the statue was found in the middle ages.
