iată la ce v'a chemat el, prin evanghelia noastră, ca să căpătaţi slava domnului nostru isus hristos.

then said he, unto what is the kingdom of god like? and whereunto shall i resemble it?

luptă-te lupta cea bună a credinţei; apucă viaţa vecinică la care ai fost chemat, şi pentru care ai făcut aceea frumoasă mărturisire înaintea multor marturi.

assuredly that whereunto ye call me hath no claim in the world or in the hereafter, and our return will be unto allah, and the prodigals will be owners of the fire.
fără îndoială, că cel către care mă chemaţi nu poate fi chemat nici în viaţa de acum, nici în viaţa de apoi. Întoarcerea noastră este la dumnezeu, iar cei necumpătaţi vor fi soţii focului.

and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
şi o piatră de poticnire, şi o stîncă de cădere". ei se lovesc de ea, pentrucă n-au crezut cuvîntul, şi la aceasta sînt rînduiţi.

if thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of jesus christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
dacă vei pune în mintea fraţilor aceste lucruri, vei fi un bun slujitor al lui hristos isus, fiindcă te hrăneşti cu cuvintele credinţei şi ale bunei învăţături, pe care ai urmat -o pînă acum.

have we not established for them a sure sanctuary, whereunto the produce of all things is brought (in trade), a provision from our presence?
nu le-am făcut noi lor un loc sfânt şi tihnit unde sunt aduse roadele fiecărui lucru ca înzestrare de la noi?

toate faptele privitoare la puterea şi isprăvile lui, şi amănuntele despre mărimea la care a ridicat împăratul pe mardoheu, nu sînt scrise în cartea cronicilor împăraţilor mezilor şi perşilor?

we have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Şi avem cuvîntul proorociei făcut şi mai tare; la care bine faceţi că luaţi aminte, ca la o lumină care străluceşte într'un loc întunecos, pînă se va crăpa de ziuă şi va răsări luceafărul de dimineaţă în inimile voastre.

and they say: our hearts are under veils from that whereunto thou callest us, and in our ears there is heaviness, and betwixt us and thee there is a curtain; work thou then, verily we are workers.
ei spun: “inimile noastre sunt zăvorâte la ceea ce tu ne chemi, iar urechile noastre sunt lovite de surzenie. un văl se află între noi şi tine.
